What is Ramadan and fasting?

Ramadan is a holy month for Muslims and the ninth month in the calendar of Islam (Hijriyah calendar).  Every religious adherents of Islam, they always await the arrival of the month of Ramadan. Ramadan is a month full of blessings and forgiveness from Allah. In the month of Ramadan, all Muslims are obliged to fast. In the month of Ramadan, all Muslims who have puberty are obliged to fasting.

By fasting in the holy month of Ramadan, people proved their belief and love to Allah by leaving things they liked, what they want and they love. By fasting, every Muslim also learn various things. When Muslims fasting, they do not eat and drink from dawn to evening time. People who fasting know the pain of poor people who do not eat all day, then they are grateful for every blessing of God has given to them. In addition, it can motivate them to help other people who cannot afford.

Muslims achieve the devotion by fasting. They avoid any prohibition of Allah and do all His orders.  By fasting Muslims, train themselves to control their desires. Therefore, they do not do bad things. The night of the Ramadan, Muslims do pray Tarawih together.

Who are obliged to fasting?

Every Muslim people who were puberty, understanding, not traveling away, capable and has no barrier, then they should to fasting.

Who person is allow to not fasting?
  • Small children who have not puberty,
  • Crazy people,
  • People who travel a lot and are not strong enough to fast,
  • Parents who are senile,
  • People who are sick and are not strong enough to fast
  • People are no longer able to fasting. Such as people who are very old.

Seven things that can invalidate fasting

  • Eating and drinking deliberately
  • Vomiting deliberately
  • Everything that replacing foods and beverages, such as infusion injections
  • Menstruation and post-partum
  • Having sex
  • Eject the semen deliberately
  • Cupping treatment

The person who is fasting should be control the following things:

  • Control the bickers. Such as avoiding useless talk, do not say rude and dirty etc.
  • Control the sight. Such as not see anything that is forbidden (haram)
  • Keep the hearing
  • Control the lust.
  • Keep hands and feet, to stay away from doing bad thing
  • Keep the hearts. Such as not be arrogant, humble, always thinking positive and etc.
  • Etc.
